Founding Roots (1917)
The club’s story began just over a century ago, when the grounds were acquired for £5 from the Land Commission.

From Seaplane Base to Clubhouse
Following World War I, the site had briefly served as a U.S. Navy seaplane base before being transformed into a sporting venue for the local community.

A Century of Tennis
Since its founding, the club has continually grown. Major upgrades in 2015 saw all six courts resurfaced and new floodlighting installed, ensuring year-round play in excellent conditions.

Resilience After Adversity
In 2017, the original clubhouse was destroyed by fire. True to its community spirit, the club bounced back stronger than ever, with membership now close to 600 and thriving programmes across junior and adult levels.

Today
Lower Aghada Tennis & Sailing Club is proud of its rich heritage and its role as a community hub. With year-round tennis, coaching for all ages, tournaments, and social events, the club continues to build on more than a century of tradition, always with a friendly welcome for new members.
